Everton have gone back to Chelsea over a permanent deal for Tyrique George, with talks said to be progressing well and a package in excess of £20m on the table.
Patrick Boyland of The Athletic reports the two clubs could have an agreement done this week.
It’s a quick turnaround. George spent the second half of last season on loan at the Hill Dickinson, but one Premier League start and 210 minutes in total made Everton wary of meeting Chelsea’s original £22-25m valuation when his option-to-buy expired.
Reports earlier this week had the Toffees walking away from that figure altogether, but Boyland says that talks have re-opened and the move is, potentially, back on.
Lower base fee but with add-ons
The new number suggests Everton have gone back with a restructured offer rather than simply triggering the original clause — a lower base fee, likely with add-ons making up the rest based on appearances, league position and other metrics such as international call-ups in the future.
Moyes has spoken well of the 20-year-old throughout, even when his performances didn’t match the original hype. With Jack Grealish’s situation still unresolved and Newcastle previously credited with interest, Everton will want this one done before anyone else makes a move.
More as it breaks.
