Everton brought in a significant number of new players during the recent summer transfer window.
However, one player that they were linked with but didn’t end up signing, which we feel has been a big mistake from the Toffees is Mohammed Kudus.
At the age of 22, the Ghanaian has made 49 senior appearances for Ajax across all competitions in which he has scored eight goals and delivered five assists.
Throughout his career, Kudus has played as a central and defensive-midfielder as well as a centre-forward, scoring goals and providing assists in all positions, which highlights his versatility and the danger he has in front of goal.
His latest appearance for the Dutch club saw the former Everton target play as a striker in Ajax’s 4-0 win over Rangers in the Champions League.
Not only did he provide the assist for the second goal of the game, but he also scored Ajax’s third just after the half-hour mark.
This further highlights how much of a dangerous player he can be and how capable he is of doing it on the big stage in Europe.
It also backs up why Kudus was lauded as a “special talent” by journalist Owuraku Ampofo on Twitter.
After reportedly having a bid of £15m rejected by the Dutch side, we feel that Everton and Kevin Thelwell should have done more to secure the youngster’s signature, mainly by potentially putting in a bigger offer for him.
Taking all of this into account, it’s safe to suggest that Thelwell could now be having nightmares over not getting this proposed deal over the line during the recent summer transfer window.
Bearing in mind how the versatile player has not started any of Ajax’s six league games so far this season, if he continues to be a bench player for the club, this should persuade the Toffees to reignite their interest in signing him once the January transfer window opens for business.
