Everton’s interest in Portuguese star halted after unfortunate update

Share
  • Moyes’ well-drilled Everton defence has amassed 11 PL clean sheets this season.
  • The Scotsman is still eager to improve depth in this area of the Toffees’ squad.
  • Kevin Boma from Estoril has been linked but interest has cooled following injury.

Since David Moyes returned to Everton in January 2025, he has coached his side to become a well-oiled defensive machine.

Many wins this season have come off the back of solid defensive performances, and the Scotsman is keen to maintain a strong back line.

Everton have been linked with defenders ahead of the coming transfer window, but their interest in one of them has cooled following a season-ending injury.

Interest in Boma has reduced following a thigh injury

Estoril’s Kevin Boma has previously attracted attention from multiple European clubs, but a muscle injury sustained in February has ruled the defender out for the rest of the season.

Although his injury has driven down interest from other clubs, Everton remain open to a potential deal, according to Sport Witness.

He made the move to Portugal last season and featured in all of their league games in his debut season.

The Togo international continued to be a key man in his second year with Estoril, but following his injury, he has not made an appearance since January.

Boma’s contract runs up until 2028, and the Toffees could advantage of this and snatch him up in a bargain deal.

Kevin Boma’s journey makes him an appealing signing

Making his senior debut with Tours II, the 23-year-old played in various tiers of the French footballing pyramid before moving to Portugal.

His debut for Estoril was his first taste of top division football after years of hard work and dedication in lower leagues.

Having experience at these lower levels spotlights his maturity and physicality as a defender.

Moyes is not a stranger to finding talent outside of established leagues and nurturing them to become outstanding players.

Leighton Baines, Tim Cahill and Jarrod Bowen are all examples of players who made the step up to top division football thanks to Moyes, and all went on to create impressive careers in the Premier League.

The potential addition of Boma would likely be considered as a signing for the future, but after demonstrating an impressive CV in senior football at such a young age, he could have the maturity and smarts that Moyes looks for in his players.
