Fans in awe at Lucas Digne’s performance v Wolves

Many Everton fans were heaping praise on Lucas Digne following his return from injury as he played a key role in the 2-1 victory over Wolves on Tuesday night.

The French international was instrumental in the Blues’ win as his guided cross was met by Alex Iwobi superbly on the half-volley for an early opening goal. The Toffees’ opener and a late headed goal from Michael Keane ensured that a well-worked Wolves goal from Ruben Neves would could for nothing for the home side.

Digne was operating out of position, appearing to feature as a winger in a dynamic 4-4-2 system which lacked natural striking options. His assist for Iwobi was his fifth of the season – the joint-most of any Everton player so far in 2020/21.

Carlo Ancelotti was unsurprisingly positive about his side’s performance in unusual and injury-hampered circumstances, saying : “We knew this would be a difficult game to play here.

“We had a different approach without Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin. We played more to attack the flanks with Iwobi and Digne and it worked well because the first goal was a fantastic combination.”

These Everton fans took to Twitter to praise the £90,000-a-week Digne for his creative excellence in a “brilliant” performance from the 27-year-old:
