Fans slam Tom Davies after defeat to Man United

Everton’s Tom Davies came in for a lot of criticism from Toffees fans on Twitter following Wednesday’s 2-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester United.

The 22-year-old replaced the disappointing Andre Gomes before the hour mark but struggled to get into the game. He didn’t see a lot of the ball or protect his defence in the build up to Manchester United’s opening goal, leaving Anthony Martial in too much space to pick out a pass.

Against United, Davies played for 33 minutes, had 16 touches, won one header, completed only eight passes, failed to create a chance or win a tackle, made two clearances, gave away one foul and did not have a successful dribble (WhoScored). It’s fair to say the academy graduate was ineffective against the Red Devils.

Davies has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season but has only amassed 412 minutes of football as he finds himself behind Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Andre Gomes and Gylfi Sigurdsson in the pecking order. Carlo Ancelotti may continue leaving the England inder-21 international out of the starting line-up if things don’t improve for him.

These Everton fans on Twitter did not hold back in their criticism of Davies, with words such as “inept” and “dreadful” used to describe his performance:

In other news, many Everton fans hit out at one player’s ‘shocking’ performance in the defeat to Manchester United.

matchday.
