- Everton slumped to successive defeats in the Premier League after a 2-1 loss at the London Stadium.
- The Toffees conceded another late winner as Callum Wilson bagged his ninth goal against the Blues.
- David Moyes’ men have now dropped into the bottom half of the table but are three points off sixth place.
Callum Wilson secured a valuable three points for West Ham United in a 2-1 victory over Everton at the London Stadium.
Everton now sits in 11th and sees their bid for Europe weakened after another defeat.
After a gutting loss against Liverpool, David Moyes’ men failed to bounce back and have not given themselves an ideal platform for the final games of the season.
With title-pushing Manchester City up next for the Blues, they are making their European charge very difficult for themselves…
Everton are getting bullied from corners
Everton have conceded from a corner in two successive weeks, and it is clear this is a weakness of theirs.
Both Virgil van Dijk’s winner and Tomas Soucek’s opener came from physically outmatching the men in royal blue and taking advantage of a crowded six-yard box.
The Toffees will want to halt this habit immediately, and it is something that, once exposed, can be difficult to resolve.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall pops up as the main man again
Although it was a disappointing afternoon for Evertonians, they will be happy to see Dewsbury-Hall pop up with another goal.
He now has 12 Premier League goal involvements for the Toffees and spotlighted himself as Everton’s chief creator in the middle of the park.
If the Toffees are to progress over the coming seasons, Dewsbury-Hall will have a part to play in it.
Charly Alcaraz has a place in David Moyes’ side
Charly Alcaraz made his first appearance for Everton since their 1-1 draw at the Amex Stadium in January.
Although the Argentinian had little chance to make an impact on the game, it gives an indication that Moyes is happy to have the midfielder back in his side.
Everton will likely find themselves in losing situations again, and it offers excitement that Alcaraz may be given more chances to demonstrate his talents.
Thierno Barry continues to disappoint Evertonians
Thierno Barry played the full 90 minutes for the Blues and he struggled to act as a threat for them.
As a lone striker, he had a tough task today, and it’d be unfair to judge him on today alone, as he did have moments of clever hold-up play.
But the Frenchman needs to show more willingness by dropping deep and spreading out wide, as opposed to functioning as a sole forward up top. David Moyes had earlier hinted a mix feeling on Barry’s potential but still chose to start him.
The players might be letting Derby defeat get to their heads.
West Ham’s victory was thoroughly deserved as they outmatched Everton in every department.
The Hammers were handed good luck after the Blues had a penalty waved away, but it was a courageous performance from the home side, who took advantage of an Everton team that looked hurt from their loss against Liverpool.
Moyes’ men struggled to gain much momentum in the game and only managed to create meaningful chances once West Ham started to drop deep.
It is worrying to see the Toffees fail to generate much threat against a team that has been below them for the majority of this season, and they have left themselves with a mighty task with Manchester City next in their schedule.
