Garth Crooks is wowed by Andros Townsend and his Everton form

BBC pundit Garth Crooks has waxed lyrical over the standout performance of Andros Townsend for Everton following his equalising goal away against Manchester United over the weekend.

Townsend rounded off a superb team effort to slot a shot beyond the reaches of David de Gea following an incisive counterattack.

Led by Demarai Gray and carried up the pitch by Abdoulaye Doucoure, all three men played crucial roles in breaking through Mancunian lines to salvage a point away from home.

His role in the draw led Crooks to heap praise onto the former Crystal Palace winger and England international, with Crooks Naming him in his Premier League Team of the Week on the BBC Sport website.

Speaking of the 30-year-old’s performance, Crooks claimed:

“My goodness it looks like Andros Townsend is enjoying his football again.

Crooks even talked up the change of scenery as a factor.

“I don’t know if it’s the Merseyside air that’s done it, but whatever it is he should continue doing it.

“Having gone through difficult periods in his career at Spurs and Crystal Palace he seems bang in form for Everton.

“His goal against Manchester United was of the highest quality. His first touch with the outside of his left boot was only equalled by a finish of precision with his right foot. David de Gea was rooted.”

Townsend just finds new and colourful ways to bounce from strength to strength in an Everton shirt.

The winger has come on leaps and bounds since leaving Crystal Palace over the summer, with Townsend’s 5 goals in his 9 Everton games equalling his tally in his last 79 games for Palace.

Fans will be keen to see his scoring run continuing as he looks to buoy the Blues up the table.
