- Jack Grealish has a £50 million clause to make the Everton move permanent
- Everton are in talks with Manchester City to strike a deal for the 30-year-old
- European qualification would strengthen the Toffees’ hand in negotiations.
Everton’s summer transfer plans have taken a significant step forward. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Jack Grealish wants to remain at Everton beyond his current loan spell from Manchester City.
The 30‑year‑old winger has resurrected his career at Hill Dickinson Stadium after falling out of favour under Pep Guardiola, and now the Toffees are working to make the move permanent.
Everton have already opened conversations with both Grealish’s representatives and Manchester City to get a head start on proceedings. However, Everton are reportedly unwilling to pay the £50 million clause. The player has been sidelined for several months due to injury, but his impact when fit was undeniable. Now, Romano has provided the latest update on the situation.
Fabrizio Romano: ‘Jack Grealish is open to this possibility’
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano detailed Everton’s efforts to keep Grealish on Merseyside.
“Everton have started conversations with the camp of Jack Grealish to find solutions to keep him beyond this season,” Romano said.
“Everton want to find a solution with the player’s camp and Manchester City to continue the partnership next season. While the player is open to this possibility, the outcome depends on several factors: the financial factor (Grealish is on a significant salary). Manchester City’s stance, as he remains an important player.
“These conversations are just beginning, and it will be an interesting topic to follow in the upcoming weeks. Let’s see how it goes.”
Romano also noted that Jack Grealish has thrived in Everton’s environment. “He suffered an injury recently, but when he was playing, he was fantastic for Everton. The perfect context, doing very well, quality, goals, assists. So Grealish is always appreciated there.”
What it means for Everton
Everton are believed to be willing to spend around £20m to sign Grealish permanently, though another loan deal remains a possibility if a permanent transfer proves too complex. The 30‑year‑old heads into the final year of his lucrative Manchester City contract this summer, which could give the Toffees some leverage in negotiations.
Aston Villa have also shown an interest in bringing their former captain back to the Midlands. However, Romano’s update makes it clear that Grealish has enjoyed his time at Everton and wants to continue playing for the Blues. The connection with manager David Moyes and the passion of the Everton fans have clearly left a mark.
For The Friedkin Group, securing Grealish on a permanent basis would be a significant statement of intent. It would show that Everton are no longer a club that simply develops loanees for richer rivals but a destination in their own right.
European qualification would only strengthen their hand. Talks are ongoing. But the most important detail is already clear. Jack Grealish wants to stay. Now it is up to Everton and Manchester City to find a deal that works for everyone.
