Marseille yet to meet contract demands of Everton target Lihadji

Marseille have yet to meet the contract demands of Everton target Isaac Lihadji, according to reports.

We covered the story yesterday that Everton’s pursuit of the 17-year old attacker looked to have become more difficult after the player admitted to wanting to become a regular starter for the French club.

As a highly rated talent, Marseille are desperate to keep Lihadji and while the player wants to remain at the Stade Velodrome, the two parties have yet to come to an agreement over a new contract.

According to L’Equipe (via Inside Futbol), Marseille recently proposed new terms to Lihadji’s representatives, although they were deemed to only be a marginal financial increase, and still a way off being agreeable.

The Frenchman’s representatives are sticking to their guns over their initial demands, and with the player away at the Under-17s World Cup in Brazil, Marseille have little wiggle room to negotiate further.

The two camps are set to meet for further talks this week, and clubs such as Everton, Manchester United and Barcelona will be keeping a watchful eye on proceedings.

It still seems unlikely that Everton could land the 17-year old attacker, with two bigger and wealthier clubs in Manchester United and Barcelona also waiting in the wings, it does seem as though the door has been opened slightly.

I would still expect the teenager to sign for Marseille because not only does he want to stay but the French side are desperate to keep him, and ahead of the World Cup later this week, the Ligue 1 outfit will want to tie him down before his stock rises any further.
