Red Bull Leipzig target move for David Henen

Early Bundesliga pacesetters Red Bull Leipzig are eyeing a January swoop for Everton striker David Henen, according to BILD.

Everton signed the Belgian U19 international on an initial season-long loan from Olympiakos and scored six goals for their U21 side during the 2014/15 season, prompting the Toffees to make the move permanent in the summer of 2015 for £200,000.

Henen spent last season again with the U21 side before joining League One outfit Fleetwood Town on loan in November where he went on to make 13 appearances for the club, scoring once.

The 20-year-old is yet to make a senior appearance for Everton since joining the club and has reportedly turned down a new five-year deal in order to push through a January move.

Ligue 1 side Lille are believed to be interested in Henen, say the Daily Star, while both Nice and Toulouse have been linked as well. Everton are believed to be looking to loan him out in January but the Belgian is angling for a permanent move.

Both Ronald Koeman and U23s coach David Unsworth are reportedly concerned with Henen’s ability to cope with the physicality of English football, with Unsworth stating that the striker broke down regularly.

Only under contract until 2018, Henen is now wanted by Bundesliga leaders Red Bull Leipzig in a surprise January swoop and sporting director Ralf Rangnick has reportedly already made contact over a move.
