Everton will face competition from Sevilla for Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino this month, according to Calciomercato.
The Toffees have been frequently linked with the Uruguayan this week, with Corriere dello Sport (cited by Sempre Inter) first mentioning the club’s interest, claiming that Everton were ready to submit an “important offer”.
Journalist Alfredo Pedulla reported a few days ago on Twitter that Vecino had agreed to join Tottenham, which had appeared for a moment to be the end of Everton’s alleged pursuit of the 28-year old.
However, Calciomercato then reported yesterday that Manchester United had joined the race, with the report (which cited Gazzetta dello Sport) reaffirming Everton’s interest.

Now the latest report from Calciomercato claims that Everton could face competition from La Liga outfit Sevilla, who are also interested in the Uruguay international.
Vecino is surplus to requirements at the San Siro under Antonio Conte, who wants to move along the midfielder in order to free up funds.
Calciomercato reports that it would take around £17million to tempt Inter into selling, with the Serie A side hoping to raise funds to buy Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen and Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud.

Honestly, it is getting harder and harder to track the state of this transfer saga at this point. Everton are out and buried one minute, then they’re back in the race the very next. As such, we have to take everything with a pinch of salt.
Carlo Ancelotti spoke out in his pre-Newcastle press conference about recent transfer speculation in the papers, declaring that “all the names in the newspapers are wrong” and that “all the names on Sky are wrong”, which does make this story seem less credible.
That could be Ancelotti keeping his cards close to his chest, or it could be a genuine attempt from the Everton manager to keep an honest dialogue open between the club and the fans. I’d like to believe it is the latter, but we’ll open know once the transfer window closes.
