Thierno Barry produced one of his most influential performances for Everton on Thursday night, only for a memorable Carabao Cup victory to be overshadowed by a burglary at his home.
The striker scored and provided an assist as Everton beat Newcastle United 3-1 at the Hill Dickinson to book a quarter-final trip to Fleetwood Town.
Barry’s big night overshadowed
Barry supplied the cross for Hayden Hackney to make it 2-0 shortly before half-time before getting on the scoresheet himself after the break, finishing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s pass to put Everton in control. While the 24-year-old was helping David Moyes’ side progress, however, his home was being targeted.
The Daily Mail reports Barry and his partner were burgled while they were at the match, with nobody inside the property at the time. Barry’s partner subsequently revealed what had happened on social media, describing the experience as “extremely distressing and violating” and appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
A financial reward has also been offered for information which helps identify those responsible. The news puts a very different perspective on what had appeared to be an excellent evening for Barry.
His contribution helped Everton move another step closer to Wembley, but events away from the Hill Dickinson ensured the night ended on a far more difficult note for the striker and his family.
