Virals: Everton ace Yerry Mina in PL top four for ground duels won

Everton defender Yerry Mina ranks fourth in the current Premier League season to date in terms of the highest percentage of ground duels won in the Premier League.

As shared on Twitter by footballing facts and opinion hub Matchday365 (@Matchday365), only Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, summer Crystal Palace signing Marc Guehi and ex-Real Madrid and current Manchester United centre-back Raphael Varane rank higher.

Mina has won seventy-five percent of all ground duels this season, with the stat highlighting his prowess in one-versus-one situations.

The former Barcelona man and experienced Colombia international has made seventy appearances for Everton, helping to keep twelve clean sheets in the process.

In front of goal, Mina is known to occasionally chip in with direct offensive output – he has scored five Premier League goals for the Toffees and added an assist during his spell with the Blues.

He has played in every single Premier League game this season with the exception of the Toffees’ 2-0 away win against Brighton.

He also featured in the full ninety minutes against Leeds in a 2-2 draw and in both of Everton’s most recent two games.

With Mina becoming increasingly trusted under Rafa Benitez, the statistic underlines his growing importance in Everton colours.

Having an adept bulwark at the back with the capability to break up attacks in close-quarters situations offers a combative element to the club’s options in the back line, rendering him as a considerably reliable centre-back in terms of taking on an oncoming defender.
