- Mykolenko has played 28 games this season for Everton
- The Ukrainian is tied to Everton till the summer of 2027
- Mykolenko has a high chance of staying in the Premier League, as per Ukrainian media reports
Everton’s latest planning includes a decision on left‑back Vitaliy Mykolenko. The Ukrainian international joined the Toffees from Dynamo Kyiv in January 2022 for a reported £23.5m and has since made over 150 appearances for the club.
Mykolenko’s current deal expires in June, but Everton moved earlier this year to trigger an extension clause in his contract. That clause keeps him at Hill Dickinson Stadium until 2027, yet speculation has persisted about his long‑term future.
Now, a prominent Ukrainian journalist has offered clarity. Igor Tsyganyk, reporting on his YouTube channel, as covered by Sports Witness, believes Mykolenko will not be leaving Merseyside this summer.
Tsyganyk: ‘I give a high percentage of chances that he will still stay at Everton’
“As far as I understand, Vitaliy himself, and this is probably right, will in any case consider the option with Everton first,” Tsyganyk said. “If not with Everton, then options from the Premier League. Mykolenko played a fairly successful season. No matter what the fans say, he played quite consistently this season.
“It is noticeable that he has recovered from the injuries that occurred after the 2023/24 season, when he went to the Euros, where he was still injured. This season he played much more stably.”
“And I believe that Mykolenko will not go anywhere from the Premier League. I give a high percentage of chances that he will still stay at Everton.”
The 26‑year‑old has been a regular for Ukraine since 2018, earning 52 caps. His Premier League campaign has seen him start 28 matches, playing every minute of those games. He has contributed one assist as well, while defensively, he has been a reliable presence.
A consistent campaign for Mykolenko despite fan doubts
Tsyganyk acknowledged that some supporters have questioned Mykolenko’s performances, but he pointed to the defender’s improved consistency after a difficult period of injuries.
The 2023/24 season saw Mykolenko struggle with fitness issues, including a problem sustained at the European Championship. This term, he has been largely ever‑present, starting every league game he has been available for.
Everton triggered the one‑year extension in Mykolenko’s contract earlier this year, but that only pushed the decision to 2027. A longer‑term agreement has not yet been announced.
David Moyes has shown faith in the Ukrainian, but with the club chasing European football and needing to strengthen in several areas, the left‑back position could still be targeted for an upgrade.
The defender has always spoken positively about his time at Everton, and with European football potentially on the horizon, there is little reason for him to push for an exit. A new contract would end the speculation once and for all.
