Everton’s TikTok takes aim at Troy Deeney over Pickford jibe

Everton’s official TikTok account has been getting some love on social media after taking a swipe at Troy Deeney, following the pundit’s now-well-worn and tiring criticism of Jordan Pickford’s World Cup form.

Deeney’s original comments, made on CBS Sports after England’s opening win over Croatia, have been doing the rounds for weeks: “We’re trying to win a World Cup… we can’t win it with that guy in goal. He doesn’t give you any confidence.”

It was always going to needle Evertonians, given Pickford’s decade-long service at Goodison and the Hill Dickinson and a shot-stopping reputation most fans consider beyond reproach.

According to a post from X user Giulia Bould on Monday evening, which quickly picked up traction among Everton supporters, the club’s TikTok team weighed in with a response of their own.

What is clear is that it landed well with the fanbase, with replies applauding the club for standing up for its keeper rather than choosing to ignore Deeney’s comments.

It’s a minor footnote in a summer dominated by transfer business, but a reminder that Pickford’s standing at Goodison remains untouchable regardless of what’s said about him elsewhere — and that whoever runs the club’s social channels isn’t afraid to have a bit of fun at a pundit’s expense.

With Pickford facing Messi and Argentina in Wednesday’s World Cup semi-final, don’t expect the Deeney discourse to go away just yet.

This piece draws on social media reaction and has not been independently verified beyond the original post; Everton have not issued an official comment.
