Ancelotti Hints Key Colombian Star May be Available for Saints Trip

The Toffees have been dealt a last-minute boost after Carlo Ancelotti signalled a key summer signing could be cleared to feature against Southampton this weekend.

Everton were already set to lose key Brazilian attacker Richarlison to suspension following the red card he received after a lunging tackle.

His absence was set to be coupled by the loss of another key figure, with Ancelotti’s previous comments to the Everton club website confirming that the Colombian attacker James Rodriguez would also miss the weekend’s south coast trip following a minor injury he sustained against Liverpool.

“Unfortunately, James had a problem during the game [against Liverpool],” Ancelotti told evertontv.

“He had a mistimed tackle with Virgil van Dijk at the beginning of the game and I think he will not be available for the game against Southampton.”

However, the latest update by Times journalist Paul Joyce has thrown a positive twist into the mix.

Joyce has posted comments made in Ancelotti’s latest press conference, with the Italian manager stating that James Rodriguez trained today and could be fit for Southampton.

The versatile player is typically deployed out wide, as he is adept on either flank. Rodriguez can also play centrally.

This news will come as a huge boost to Toffee fans.

The Colombian has been ever-present in Everton’s recent success, scoring 3 goals and setting up a further 3 in just 5 games for the Toffees.

Should Rodriguez be cleared in time to feature, it will boost Everton’s attacking prospects immensely against the Saints. His immediate return is no clear certainty, but there is good cause for encouragement.
