Carlo Ancelotti has provided an update on JP Gbamin’s injury condition, indicating that a successful surgery could have him back available before the end of the season.
The Ivory Coast international hasn’t been seen in an Everton shirt since the second game of the season, after which he suffered an injury in training that ruled him out for an initial eight weeks.
Several months later, Gbamin’s return date was pushed back after he was forced to undergo surgery, having previously believed that it wouldn’t be necessary, with a January return mooted.
It was then confirmed in the final days of January that the 24-year old had suffered a major setback, which caused many to speculate that the midfielder wouldn’t be back in action until next season.
Speaking in his pre-Crystal Palace press conference though (Liverpool Echo), Ancelotti revealed that Gbamin’s latest surgery had been a success, hinting that he could be back before the end of the season, saying:
The surgery went well. Now he’s doing a little treatment.
I think, as we said, in eight weeks, but we have to go slowly as the injury was big. Step-by-step we will see what’s going on.
Of course we hope to recover him before the end of the season.

While it is positive to hear that JP Gbamin’s surgery went well, I would prefer Everton not to attempt to reintroduce him back into action before the end of the season.
Signed as Idrissa Gueye’s replacement, the midfielder is now a way behind where he should be after his injury set backs.
As such, instead or rushing him back without reason, I would much prefer it if Everton could take their time and patiently allow him to recover, ready to get the ball rolling again during pre-season.
Unless Everton are able to keep up with the Europa League hopefuls, there isn’t an awful lot to play for in the remaining months of the season, and Everton do not need to bring Gbamin back too soon, only to lose him to injury again.
