Everton target 20-year-old Bundesliga striker after summer move blocked

Everton are considering another move for Bayer Leverkusen striker Christian Kofane when the transfer window reopens in January.

Football Insider reports that the 20-year-old remains on Everton’s list after Leverkusen blocked his departure during the summer.

The Cameroon international is also attracting interest from Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Chelsea, although Leverkusen are expected to resist offers in January.

Everton retain Christian Kofane interest

Everton tried to sign Kofane during the summer, when talks took place with his representatives at Finch Farm and a formal offer was reported. He remained with Leverkusen and has since scored three goals in six appearances this season, including two in the Bundesliga.

Kofane is currently sidelined after suffering a thigh muscle injury. Leverkusen confirmed earlier this month that the striker would be out for several weeks, putting his return date closer to the January window.

Football Insider says Everton could try again if Leverkusen make him available. The German club’s current position, however, is that they do not want to lose the striker midway through the season. Kofane is understood to be open to a move to the Premier League and is under contract with Leverkusen until 2029.

Everton have also been linked with Rennes striker Esteban Lepaul as David Moyes considers his options up front. Thierno Barry has scored six goals in eight appearances this season and is Everton’s only senior specialist centre-forward.

Leverkusen’s stance leaves a January move for Kofane uncertain, with his recovery from injury another factor before the window opens.
