Everton could sign Conor Coady permanently for less than £5m

Everton added several new players to Frank Lampard’s squad during the summer transfer window.

One of those was defender Conor Coady, who joined on a season-long loan deal from fellow Premier League club Wolves.

Now that some time has passed since his arrival at Goodison Park in August, some details have been revealed regarding the centre-back’s contract at the Merseyside club.

What’s the news?

In a recent tweet in which he shared a corresponding article from The Telegraph, journalist John Percy said: “Revealed: Everton’s option to sign England international Conor Coady on a permanent deal is just £4.5m. Heavy scrutiny on Everton’s transfers over the last few years, but this is excellent business.”

In the corresponding Telegraph article, Percy reported: “There is no recall in the loan deal for Coady, and Everton will move to sign him permanently before the end of this season. It is understood there are a few humble add-ons, dependent on factors such as league appearances.”

Pay up, Everton

In the seven league games that Coady has played for the Toffees, he has racked up the second-highest number of clearances (49) and the second-highest percentage of successful passes (84.9%) among Lampard’s squad.

This shows just how impressive he has been during his short time at Goodison Park so far and why it would be safe to assume that many Everton supporters would be over the moon to hear that the club are looking to make Coady’s deal a permanent one at some point before the end of the season.

They would not only be getting a defender who has taken quickly to life in a blue shirt, but who also boasts the experience of 159 Premier League games and who is renowned for his leadership qualities.

If the 29-year-old continues to impress on the pitch for Everton between now and the end of the campaign, it should be a no-brainer for the club’s hierarchy to pay the £4.5m fee which is reportedly required to secure the player on a permanent basis.
