David Moyes wants to remain at Everton beyond this season, despite uncertainty over the club’s ownership and his own contract.
The 63-year-old has guided Everton to seventh in the Premier League and the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, but talks over an extension have slowed since the Friedkin Group announced it was exploring a sale. According to Mark Douglas of The i Paper, Moyes remains determined to build on the progress made since returning to the club in January 2025.
Moyes wants chance to build on Everton progress
The report claims Everton’s owners are seeking around £800m for the club, with preliminary interest from American investors but no advanced takeover negotiations. Some figures within Everton believe Moyes should be offered a short-term extension to provide stability while the ownership situation remains unresolved.
“He wants to stay beyond the summer, but he wants to have a proper go at it,” one source told The i Paper.
Moyes has faced frustrations over recruitment, particularly after the proposed signing of Folarin Balogun collapsed late in the summer transfer window. However, the report says his relationship with chief executive Angus Kinnear remains good, while the owners are prepared to support a January move for a striker.
The Friedkin Group confirmed in October that it was considering new investment, including the potential sale of a controlling interest. Moyes subsequently admitted he was surprised by the announcement, having returned with ambitions of taking Everton back into European contention.
Successive victories over Newcastle have strengthened his position on the pitch. Whether that leads to a new contract before the ownership situation is resolved remains to be seen.
