Everton are back up to seventh in the Premier League after Monday’s 1-0 victory at Newcastle, with Thierno Barry’s winner completing a second success over the Magpies in four days.
David Moyes has also left the door open for Jack Grealish to return following his disciplinary omission, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s performances have strengthened his case for an England call-up.
Here is the latest Everton news from Tuesday, 3 November.
Barry fires Everton up to seventh
Thierno Barry scored his eighth goal of the season as Everton secured their first away Premier League victory of the campaign at St James’ Park. The striker reacted quickest after Tyrique George’s effort escaped Newcastle goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek four minutes into the second half.
Everton had created the better opportunities before the break and continued to threaten after going ahead. Jarrad Branthwaite, returning after completing concussion protocols, was among those to test the home goalkeeper. Newcastle struck the post through Anthony Elanga and Jordan Pickford made an important late save from Yoane Wissa, but Moyes’ side held on for a deserved victory.

Dewsbury-Hall leads Everton player ratings
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was the outstanding performer in Monday’s win, earning a nine out of 10 in our player ratings. The midfielder was heavily involved in Everton’s attacking play and collected his second successive player-of-the-match award against Newcastle.
Pickford, Branthwaite, James Tarkowski and James Garner all received eights, while Barry was awarded seven after scoring the winner. Branthwaite’s return was another positive for Moyes, with the defender looking assured after missing the previous two matches.

Moyes backs Dewsbury-Hall for England
Dewsbury-Hall’s recent form has also prompted renewed calls for him to receive his first senior England call-up. Moyes has backed the 28-year-old for international recognition, while football journalist Henry Winter has highlighted his intensity, versatility and influence on Everton’s performances.
Dewsbury-Hall has started all nine Premier League games this season, contributing two goals and one assist. England manager Thomas Tuchel names his latest squad on Friday ahead of Nations League fixtures against Croatia and Spain.

Grealish has a way back into Moyes’ plans
Jack Grealish’s future remains a talking point after he missed a third successive Everton match. The 31-year-old was omitted from Thursday’s Carabao Cup victory over Newcastle following a breach of club discipline and was again absent on Monday, with Everton citing fitness concerns.
Asked whether Grealish had a way back into the side, Moyes replied: “Of course there is.”
Patrick Boyland of The Athletic reports that Everton want to move on from the disciplinary matter and concentrate on getting the winger fit and reintegrated into the squad. The difficulty for Grealish is that Everton have won twice without him, leaving Moyes with little reason to make immediate changes.

Everton’s Newcastle duel record stands out
Everton’s performance at St James’ Park was also notable for their success in individual battles. Football data analyst Andy Forrester reported that Moyes’ side won 67% of the duels contested, the highest percentage recorded by a Premier League team in a single match this season.
Sky Sports recorded a slightly different figure, with Everton winning 56 duels to Newcastle’s 31, a success rate of 64.4%. The visitors came out on top both on the ground and in the air, providing further evidence of their strong performance.
