Tuchel decision looms as Dewsbury-Hall eyes first England call-up

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for Everton

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s impressive start to the season has strengthened his case for a first England call-up ahead of Thomas Tuchel naming his latest squad on Friday.

The Everton midfielder produced another influential display in Monday’s 1-0 victory over Newcastle, earning a second successive player-of-the-match award after also starring against the Magpies in the Carabao Cup.

Dewsbury-Hall pushes England case

David Moyes has already backed Dewsbury-Hall for England, while football journalist Henry Winter has also made the case for Tuchel to take a closer look at the 28-year-old.

Winter pointed to Dewsbury-Hall’s intensity, versatility and influence on those around him, with his form making him a credible candidate for inclusion.

His importance to Moyes is clear. Dewsbury-Hall has started all nine of Everton’s Premier League games this season, scoring twice and providing one assist, and has missed very little league action.

He has also picked up just one yellow card in the Premier League this season, having received six in 31 appearances during his first league campaign with Everton.

Competition for places in England’s midfield remains strong. Declan Rice and Elliot Anderson are among Tuchel’s options, while Dewsbury-Hall’s Everton team-mate James Garner has already been involved with the senior squad.

Tuchel will name his squad on Friday for England’s final Nations League group games against Croatia at Wembley and Spain in Madrid.

For Dewsbury-Hall, who is yet to win a senior England cap, it represents another opportunity after an excellent opening few months of the campaign.

His performances have also coincided with a strong run for Everton, who climbed to seventh in the Premier League with Monday’s victory and have reached the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Whether that is enough to earn a call from Tuchel remains to be seen, but Dewsbury-Hall has given the England manager plenty to consider before Friday’s announcement.
