  • Everton in recent seasons have been reliant on their passionate fanbase.
  • The 1878s have helped create special atmospheres at Goodison & Hill Dickinson.
  • Moyes has praised the group after plans were revealed for the Merseyside Derby.

Everton’s clash against Liverpool is set to be a historic landmark for the club.

Sunday’s match will be the first of its kind at Hill Dickinson Stadium as the Blues welcome the Reds for the first time at their new home.

This historic nature of the game has prompted Everton supporters group, the 1878s, to plan a special display prior to kick off.

Ahead of the crucial match, David Moyes has applauded the group for their hard work ahead of the derby.

David Moyes credits the ‘brilliant’ 1878s

Moyes was asked in his pre-match press conference about the 1878s and the plans they have in place before the game, and he was full of praise for them.

He said: “It’s brilliant, it really is.

“We need to rebuild a lot of relationships at the club. Mainly, with a lot of the supporters.

“Any great support which people are putting up is fabulous.

“That’s what great football clubs do. The supporters get behind the team.”

The 1878s were central to creating a phenomenal atmosphere in Everton’s 3-0 victory against Chelsea, which has since been regarded as one of the club’s finest matches in their brief history at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The 1878s have been pivotal in making Hill Dickinson feel like home

Since leaving Goodison Park, the transition to Hill Dickinson Stadium has not gone seamlessly.

There was a question mark hanging over the club as to whether the fans could recreate the bear pit atmosphere that became so iconic in L4.

Now that Everton appear to be settling into their new home, supporters can thank the 1878s for their work in helping to drum up spectacular displays and, in turn, fire up the home crowd.

Sunday’s match will see the new stadium take an evolutionary step as it hosts its biggest game yet.

The win against Chelsea spotlighted what the ground can look and sound like when everything clicks together.

With that in mind, the players will be aware that if they give their all on the pitch and put in performance to be proud of, they will be treated with a special atmosphere.
