Jack Grealish could be in line for his first Everton start against Tottenham after David Moyes declared him “ready to play”.
The Everton boss was asked about Grealish ahead of Saturday’s Premier League trip to north London after using him from the bench against Manchester United.
“I think Jack is ready to play,” Moyes said. “I think he is a boy who needs football more than training.”
Grealish pushing for first start
Grealish has yet to start for Everton following his summer arrival, but Moyes’ comments suggest that could soon change. The 30-year-old was introduced against United as Everton chased the game and was on the pitch when Ainsley Maitland-Niles struck the late equaliser.
Moyes was particularly enthusiastic about what Grealish could offer once he is playing regularly, describing the prospect of him reproducing last season’s form as “incredibly exciting”.
He stopped short of confirming Grealish would start at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, leaving the decision for Saturday. But the message from Moyes was clear enough: Grealish is ready for football, and plenty of it. Whether his first Everton start comes at Tottenham remains to be seen.
