‘Everton deserve better’ – damning verdict delivered on Friedkin ownership

The Friedkin Group have been told that Everton supporters and David Moyes “deserve better” after the owners opened the door to a potential sale of the club.

TFG confirmed on Friday that it is looking at new investment options, which could include selling its controlling interest less than two years after completing its takeover. The announcement has already prompted plenty of discussion over what the Friedkins have actually brought to Everton during their short time in charge.

Writing for The Telegraph, Dominic King was scathing in his assessment, describing Dan Friedkin as an “absentee owner”. He also pointed out that Friedkin has not spoken directly to Moyes since appointing him in January 2025.

Moyes and Everton fans ‘deserve better’

King also criticised Everton’s business during the summer transfer window, including the decision to accept a £40m offer from Nottingham Forest for Harrison Armstrong. The academy graduate did not want to leave, and the move was eventually called off after a furious reaction from supporters.

Everton went on to sell Iliman Ndiaye and Beto but failed to sign the extra striker Moyes had wanted. King believes the manager deserved greater backing after steering the club away from relegation and then overseeing their first season at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

There was huge relief when TFG brought the turbulent Farhad Moshiri era to an end in December 2024, but the relationship between the new owners and supporters has soured quickly.

Now the Friedkins could be gone almost as quickly as they arrived. Whoever eventually takes control will inherit a club with a new stadium, a promising young squad and a manager who has already done plenty to steady things on the pitch. One to watch.
