Everton eye a move for Chambers

Everton is keeping tabs on Arsenal defender Calum Chambers, according to HITC Sport.

The 20-year-old came through a flourishing Southampton youth setup in 2012 and made his debut for the Saints during the 2012-13 season in a 4-1 away win against Stevenage in the cup.

Despite that being his only appearance of the season, Southampton clearly saw his potential as he signed a four-year deal at the end of the season.

Chambers then made his breakthrough during the 2013-14 season as he appeared 25 times in red & white, playing as both a centre-back and as a right-back.

This season went on to be a success for the versatile defender, who went on to join Arsenal at the end of the season for an undisclosed fee rising to £16million with performance related add-ons.

Following a strong start to his career at the Emirates, he was nominated for the Golden Boy Award 2014 alongside Everton centre-back and international team-mate John Stones.

However, his first team opportunities were limited with the signing of Gabriel Paulista, who has become the main back-up for Koscielny and Mertesacker, and the rise of Hector Bellerin, who is now the first choice right-back.

Again like the second half of last season, Chambers has found first team games hard to come by, only featuring nine times – most of which from the bench.

Due to a lack of game time, Chambers is thought to be unhappy and looking for what would most likely be a loan move away.
