Everton Fans Fume as Seamus Coleman Suffers Injury with Ireland

Many Everton fans were vocal in their dismay at the news that club captain Seamus Coleman had to withdraw from the Ireland squad due to injury.

Coleman, who also captains the Irish men’s national side, had been confirmed by the Football Association of Ireland as having to withdraw from the 3-0 friendly defeat to England due to the ‘recurrence of a previous injury following a training session’ [via Liverpool Echo].

Everton fans now face a tense wait to find out the true extent of the captain’s injury after the right-back underwent a scan for the issue.

Coleman has an unfortunate history of injury, having missed a total of 89 games in his time as an Everton player since joining the club, many of those during his long absence with a broken leg in 2017.

One fan evoked references to Coleman as the ‘next McCarthy’, with former Toffees midfielder and Irish international James McCarthy having had a similarly horrific injury record in his Everton career.

It is not yet known if the injury will keep Coleman out for an extended period, as it appears to be an aggravation of a pre-existing injury from which he was tentatively returning.

Coleman had previously picked up an injury against Liverpool a month ago but returned to the starting line-up for Everton’s defeat against Manchester United last week, playing the full 90 minutes in the process.

These Everton fans took to Twitter to voice their display over the latest setback for the 32-year-old, who has continued to be a regular starter under Carlo Ancelotti.
