Everton handed boost in Manolo Gabbiadini chase

West Ham and Everton have been handed a boost in their efforts to sign Napoli striker Manolo Gabbiadini in January after talks over a new long-term contract broke down.

According to Mediaset Premium (h/t talkSPORT), Gabbiadini was expected to sign a new contract which would run until the summer of 2021 and have his wages doubled, but that will now not be happening for the time being.

Coach Maurizio Sarri is said to be unimpressed by the performances of the Italian international of late and is unwilling to commit to giving him a long-term extension until his performances improve.

The 24-year-old striker has only found the net once in nine outings in Serie A this season and is finding himself subbed off frequently due to not having an impact on games.

Both West Ham and Everton were keen on signing the striker in the summer, and will likely reignite their interest in January following the latest developments.

Gabbiadini would’ve commanded a fee in excess of £20m back in the summer and Napoli were unwilling to sell him following the departure of Gonzalo Higuain to Juventus. His current contract expires in 2019 and if they have no interest in handing him new terms they could be forced to cash-in.
