Everton tracking Honda

Everton tracking Honda

According to reports in today’s Tuttomercato, Everton are looking at the possibility of signing AC Milan attacking midfielder Keisuke Honda.

Honda, 29, who signed for Milan in 2013 from CSKA Moscow has fallen down the pecking order in Italy and manager Sinsa Mihajlovic has not seen enough from the forward in pre-season.

The Blues have been in the market for a creative midfielder and Honda fits that bill perfectly. Known mainly for his passing ability the playmaker started his career at Nagoya Grampus before moving to VVV-Venlo and eventually CSKA Moscow. Honda is also one of the stars of the Japanese national team alongside Shinji Kagawa and boasts a huge following from his native country.

Not only would Honda bring creativity to Everton’s midfield it would open up opportunities for marketing in Asia. Two birds with one stone, as they say.

With 26 appearances last season Honda managed to pick up 6 goals, assisting 4 and averaging 1.1 key passes per game which is more than Ross Barkley and Steven Naismith averaged in that position.

The attacker also brings set piece ability. Known for his pinpoint freekicks with his left foot, Honda would potentially bring more threat from corners which Everton struggle from. Also, with Leighton Baines being out for around 12 weeks a left footed set piece specialist would be welcomed with open arms.

So not only will the Japanese international bring wealth of experience, he could also bring a bit of creativity to an Everton side that desperately needs it as well as a set piece threat and plenty of marketing opportunities.

With Spurs also looking for his signature the blues will really have to fight this one out and, with any luck, Evertonians could see finally see the club making some headway in the market.
