Everton must get rid of Salomon Rondon

Everton saw a raft of players make moves in and out of the Merseyside club during the recent summer transfer window.

Focusing on the figures that moved away from Goodison Park, the club saw players leave on free transfers as well as loan deals and permanent moves that saw the Toffees pick up a significant amount of cash.

In our view, one figure that didn’t leave the club in the summer that should have and should now be in the club’s and Kevin Thelwell’s plans to get rid of at the first opportunity is Salomon Rondon.

Back in the 2021 summer transfer window, the Toffees secured a deal for the striker on a free transfer from Chinese side Dalian Professional.

Since then, the 32-year-old has only made 27 appearances for the Merseyside club across all competitions, during which he has managed to find the back of the net on just three occasions.

Even though he made 20 league appearances for Everton last season, the £20k-per-week centre-forward failed to show why he deserves a place in the squad.

Specifically, with 21 attempts at goal, only six of them were on target, leaving nine other Toffees players with a higher percentage for shots on target than him (28.6%).

His passing wasn’t up to scratch either, as only two outfield players that made more than 10 passes had a worse percentage of pass success than Rondon (66.7%).

Having been slammed by Andy Hinchcliffe for a “nasty” challenge he made that got himself sent off against Brentford back in May, this shows how much of a liability he is off the ball as well as on it.

The Venezuelan’s overall performances earned him a disappointing season rating of 6.19/10, making him one of the lowest-rated Everton players that started more than one league game last season according to WhoScored.

With all of that in mind, it’s safe to say that Rondon has not been a success for Everton, who should now be looking to get rid of the player whenever they can as he’s simply not good enough to be a part of this Toffees outfit.
