Everton news and talking points: Everything you need to know from Mon, 28 July

Pre-season is gathering pace and it has been another busy day for Everton news, with fresh transfer speculation, an important injury update and David Moyes continuing to shape his squad ahead of the Premier League opener.

Here’s a round-up of everything we’ve covered on ReadEverton today.

Garner begins road back after surgery

Everton confirmed James Garner has undergone successful groin surgery and has started rehabilitation at Finch Farm.

The midfielder is targeting a return to first-team training around the opening week of the season, leaving his availability for the visit of Crystal Palace in doubt.

Elsewhere, Hayden Hackney is in line for his first appearance in royal blue against Stoke City, while the wider injury picture is beginning to improve as Moyes welcomes players back to fitness.

Ndiaye speculation examined

Rumours surrounding Iliman Ndiaye continued to gather pace online, particularly after reports linked the Senegal international with Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.

We took a closer look at the story, separating confirmed information from speculation after a weekend dominated by conflicting claims. At this stage, there has been no official confirmation from either club, leaving Ndiaye’s future firmly in the category of one to watch rather than one nearing a conclusion.

Transfer tracker updated

Our live summer transfer tracker has also been refreshed with the latest developments.

Everton continue to be linked with a number of attacking players, including Jonathan Rowe, while the search for a right-back remains active with Zakaria El Ouahdi, Brooke Norton-Cuffy, Rico Lewis and Alistair Johnston all still featuring among the reported options. Nottingham Forest have also been credited with interest in Beto, although there has been no indication that a move is imminent.

Focus shifts to Stoke

The Blues are back in action this evening when they travel to Stoke City for another important pre-season test.

With the opening weekend of the Premier League season now little more than a fortnight away, every friendly brings another chance for Moyes to build fitness, assess his new signings and edge closer to settling on the side he hopes can make a strong start to the campaign.

We’ll continue to bring you the latest Everton news, transfer updates and analysis throughout the day as the summer window enters another crucial week.
