Everton voice admits relief after Friedkins open door to sale

An Everton supporter says he is “actually relieved” that The Friedkin Group are considering selling the club.

TFG announced on Friday that they are looking at new investment options, including the potential sale of their controlling interest. The news comes less than two years after the group completed its takeover from Farhad Moshiri.

Everton could therefore be heading towards another change of ownership, although there is no guarantee that a sale will follow.

Everton fan says sale ‘needs to happen’

Paul Brown of The Paddock Blues was asked about the news by Giulia Bould of BBC Sport Merseyside and made his feelings clear.

“I’m actually relieved,” Brown said. “I think it needs to happen.”

David Moyes had a different initial reaction to Friday’s announcement. The Everton manager admitted he was surprised and said he had thought the Friedkins could remain at the club for another “20, 30 years”.

TFG’s arrival brought an end to the Farhad Moshiri era, while the club have since moved into Hill Dickinson Stadium. This summer proved more difficult, with Moyes unable to get all of the additions he wanted before the transfer deadline.

The Friedkins have said they will continue supporting Everton while the process is ongoing. They have also insisted that any potential buyer would need to be considered the right steward to take the club forward.

For some supporters, however, the prospect of another takeover will not necessarily be unwelcome.
