Everton predicted XI vs Southampton

Everton are on their travels once again this weekend as Frank Lampard takes his side down to the south coast to take on Southampton at St. Mary’s in the Premier League.

Here’s our prediction for what the Toffees’ starting XI could look like for this upcoming clash.

In goal, even though Asmir Begovic managed to keep a clean sheet in Everton’s previous match against West Ham United, we think Lampard will put Jordan Pickford back in the side after being declared fit by the Toffees boss.

Praised by Leon Osman for his “outstanding” performance against Liverpool earlier in the season, Pickford had been out of action with a thigh injury.

For the back four, we can see Vitaliy Mykolenko keeping his place at left-back, with the duo of Conor Coady and James Tarkowski at the heart of the defence.

Then, for the right-back position, we feel that Lampard will turn to Seamus Coleman for his first league appearance of the season after Nathan Patterson picked up an injury while away on international duty that will reportedly keep him out of action for the next five weeks.

Hailed as an “unbelievable” player by Anthony Gordon, Coleman, could now be facing a consistent run of games for his side as a result of Patterson’s injury.

Moving onto the midfield, we predict that Lampard will stick with the same trio that started against West Ham, with Alex Iwobi and Amadou Onana featuring either side of Idrissa Gana Gueye.

Then for the attacking trio, we also think that the Everton boss will go with the three that started the previous game, meaning that Gordon and Demarai Gray will play on the wings, with Neal Maupay in the middle.

With Maupay scoring his first goal for the Merseyside club against David Moyes’ side, the summer recruit will surely be hoping that he can pick up where he left off on that front by helping his new team pick up another victory this time around.
