Everton could be at risk of losing Andros Townsend in the coming days.
According to a recent report from Fanatik (via Sport Witness), Turkish club, Trabzonspor, have launched a late move to sign the Toffees winger.
The Merseyside club signed the Englishman on a free transfer from fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace during the 2021 summer transfer window.
Since then, the 31-year-old has made 27 appearances for the Toffees across all competitions, during which he has scored seven goals and delivered four assists.
Even though he had a significant period of time out injured last season and has yet to make an appearance in the league for Frank Lampard’s side in this campaign, we feel it would be a mistake from the club and their director of football Kevin Thelwell, to allow the player to leave.
Despite Everton having the likes of Demarai Gray, Anthony Gordon and Dwight McNeil as their other wide players, having Townsend in the squad as an experienced option that certainly knows how to be an attacking threat would still be very valuable for Lampard, especially if any of the three aforementioned players pick up an injury at some point in the season.
Labelled as an “underrated” player by Carlton Palmer, Townsend has proved how useful he can be for Everton when he’s been available to play, as he ended the previous league campaign with a higher percentage of shots on target (45%) than any other Toffees player to have more than three attempts at goal.
In fact, only four outfield players that started more than 15 league games last term earned a higher overall performance rating than the £21k-per-week winger, who racked up a respectable rating of 6.71/10 from WhoScored.
Taking all of this into account, given everything he can offer the team, we feel that it would be a potential disaster for Everton if they were to let Townsend go in the next few days.
