Frank De Boer – The Analysis

Frank De Boer – The Analysis

AMBITION

Frank De Boer has been touted as the next big thing in the managerial spectrum by many footballing pundits across Europe. A rather young manager who has already won 4 Eredivisie titles consecutively from 2011 to 2014. Despite losing out on the title in the last 2 years to PSV, his ambition to continue winning trophy after trophy is still there. He has now resigned as manager of Ajax following a final day draw to De Graafschap which consequently saw him lose the title to PSV again. This, in a nutshell, proves his ambition as a manager as he wants to continue his search for success in another country. He could easily stay at Ajax and take the ‘easy’ ride in the Eredivisie in the 2 horse race for the title but it’s clear that he has the ambition to compete among the best teams in the best leagues.

READY FOR A PROJECT

De Boer has had to sell his top players time and time again from Christian Eriksen to Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweirled but each time he has replaced them and Ajax have bounced back as an ever stronger team. This is something he might have to do at Everton as well, Romelu Lukaku and John Stones could both leave in the summer which would see De Boer having another redevelopment in his team. He’s also brought in and developed young and hungry players similar to what Martinez has done at Everton with Ross Barkley and John Stones. However, unlike Martinez, De Boer has given them the winning mentality to achieve league titles, whereas Martinez’s Everton form has deteriorated within the past 18 months. Like when Martinez first joined, there will be a project waiting for him which will hopefully see him take Everton back to their former glory.

CLUE IS IN THE NAME

Throughout Martinez’s reign, many players joined and stated that they were persuaded by the Spaniard and this is something that De Boer could easily do without even saying anything. The clue is really in the name, De Boer is known worldwide and any players would be attracted to the club just because they’d want to work with the former Barcelona man. And now with money to spend, we could easily attract some top players and a name like De Boer would only add to that interest.

Just through these 3 points, I think it’s fair to say that Mr. De Boer would be a very popular decision among Evertonians as he could easily be the manager to take us back to the top of English and European football.
