Ratcliffe hails Silva for bringing Everton’s identity back

Former Everton defender Kevin Ratcliffe believes that Marco Silva has brought a feel good factor back to Goodison Park, claiming the manager has helped the club rediscover their identity.

The Portuguese coach has impressed since succeeding Sam Allardyce as Toffees boss last summer, with many fans pointing to Everton’s new positive attitude on the field and determination to succeed as key turning points for the club.

And Ratcliffe, who was captain of the Blues between 1984-1991, has tipped his hat to Silva, who he has credited for bringing back the club’s identity.

Writing in his Liverpool Echo column, Ratcliffe said:

Whisper it quietly, but I’m starting to feel really optimistic about what could be happening at Everton Football Club again.

Before Sunday’s trip to Chelsea we had won three of our previous four games.

At Stamford Bridge we became the first team to keep a clean sheet against Maurizio Sarri’s unbeaten side, but most importantly of all we look we have an identity again.

Sunday’s display claimed a well earned point at a very difficult place to go, and while people might say Chelsea had chances to score – so did we!

We were the first team to stop them scoring at Stamford Bridge this season and that’s a nice statistic to have.

But most importantly of all we have an identity again.

I think we lost it last season with all the chopping and changing – three managers in one season.

We had become predictable and that’s the one thing you don’t want to be.

We’re certainly not predictable now and some of the personnel changes Marco Silva has introduced have been quietly impressive.
