Romelu Lukaku tells Everton he will not sign a new contract

Romelu Lukaku’s future has been up in the air for a while now but it seemed like a breakthrough was made.

Reports surfaced that Lukaku had committed to signing a long-term extension with the Toffees which included a major pay-rise, but speaking to Belgian media last week, the striker suggested those claims were wide of the mark.

Paul Joyce of the Times has confirmed the news that we didn’t want to hear: Lukaku has informed Everton that he will not be signing a new contract with the club.

The 23-year-old is under contract until 2019 and there will now be increased pressure for Everton to consider selling their star man in the summer now he’s pulled the plug on signing a new contract.

Manchester United, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked of late but Lukaku will not come cheap.

The former Chelsea striker has scored 81 goals in 156 games for the Toffees since arriving at the club initially on loan in a move which Everton made permanent in 2014 for a reported £30m.
