Seamus Coleman has received his first offer of interest as a free agent, with Sheffield United making contact over a possible move to Bramall Lane.
The Republic of Ireland international left Everton at the end of last month after 17 years at the club. He joined from Sligo Rovers for £60,000 in 2009 and went on to make well over 400 appearances. According to The Star, United have approached Coleman as Chris Wilder looks to add experience at right-back behind Femi Seriki. Nothing is close to being agreed.
Decision still to be made
Coleman has not decided whether to keep playing or move into coaching. The Star reports that Wilder may say more on the situation after this weekend’s friendly against Chesterfield.
United have already been priced out of a move for Kyle Walker, whose wages at Burnley are said to be too high, and have previously looked at another former Everton man, Nathan Patterson, as they try to strengthen at right-back.
Everton’s own search for a right-back remains unresolved this summer, with David Moyes continuing his rebuild of the squad. Speaking earlier this summer, ahead of Ireland’s friendlies against Qatar and Canada, Coleman said family would play a big part in any decision, and that he had not yet worked out what comes next.
Coleman was Everton captain for the best part of a decade. Whatever he decides, it brings one of the club’s longest-serving modern careers towards an end
