Stats shared on social media has highlighted the impactful performance of Mason Holgate in Everton’s 2-0 victory over Brighton.
The Toffees secured all three points and a clean sheet against the south coast side thanks to a driven Demarai Gray strike and a second-half penalty from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Whilst attention will have been duly paid to Everton’s goalscoring escapades, Everton’s first clean sheet of the season was a testament to the club’s fine defensive work against Brighton.
As shared in a Twitter post by footballing app Pitch Football (@PitchFooty), Mason Holgate was a standout performer that went under the radar as a vital cog in the Toffees’ defensive machine.
Described as putting in a ‘commanding display’, the Doncaster-born defender won the most aerial duels (5) and made the most clearances (4) and interceptions (4) of any player on the pitch.

Such a standout individual performance and his role in keeping a subsequent clean sheet will go a long way in boosting his place in the mind of Rafa Benitez.
He has already started in two of Everton’s three league games this season in a sign of increasing trust being placed in him by the Toffees’ Spanish tactician.
The 6-cap England under-21 international also started in Everton’s 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town – game that saw new Toffees signing Andros Townsend get off the mark for the club.
Consequentially, there is a mounting case to suggest that Holgate could be cementing his place as a nailed-on starter under Benitez, and such statistics in the league will do no harm to Holgate’s case.
