Yakubu urges Everton to keep hold of key player amid contract stand-off

Yakubu has called on Everton to tie down Iliman Ndiaye to a new contract, saying now is not the time for the forward to leave.

Speaking to ToffeeWeb, the former Everton striker named Ndiaye as the current player he would most like to have played alongside, comparing him to Steven Pienaar. “He plays a bit like Steven Pienaar,” Yakubu said. “He has that vision, knows how to dribble, and how to pass the ball forward.”

Ndiaye’s contract situation has drawn attention after he spoke about his desire to play Champions League football, amid reports the Senegal international is stalling on fresh terms. Asked whether that should concern David Moyes, Yakubu said Everton “need to do all they can” to keep him.

For sure, when you play so well, a lot of interest will come. I just want the club to tie him down and give him another contract.

Ndiaye has three years left on his contract, which runs to 2029, giving Everton significant leverage and no immediate pressure to sell. Manchester United and Liverpool have both been credited with interest.
