‘Winning is the biggest thing for me’, David Moyes targets three wins to end Everton’s season

Everton head to Selhurst Park on Sunday to face Crystal Palace, with three Premier League games remaining. David Moyes’ side sit 10th on 48 points, still with a mathematical chance of European qualification.

David Moyes faced the media ahead of the trip to south London to face Palace and covered a range of topics, from the team’s progression and ambitions to the striker dilemma and Tyler Dibling’s situation.

‘I want us to keep getting better’

David Moyes was asked about Everton’s progress and his aims for the team. He spoke about the identity he is trying to build.

“I want us to play well and I think we have done for most of the season. I think we’ve been a progressive team, trying to play better football, trying to stamp something down which suits us as a team.

“We’re a long way off a Man City, for example, but we need to find how it works for us. We need to work hard, but while we’re doing that, we’re trying to improve on the ball and be more exciting with the football we play.

“I want us to keep getting better at all those things. But also, winning is the biggest thing for me. It always has been, so winning the last three games would be the ideal solution,” Moyes said.

‘I’ve been sore after it’, David Moyes on the City draw

Reflecting on Monday’s 3‑3 draw with Manchester City, the manager admitted his frustration. “We played really well in the second half, but football is about two halves, so we have to play well in both.

“I’ve got to say, I’ve been sore after it because I’m disappointed we were 3-1 up and didn’t win the game.”

Beto or Barry, Who leads the attack?

Moyes faces a decision up front, with Beto and Thierno Barry competing for the starting role. Barry scored twice against City after coming off the bench. He has made his case stronger for the starting role while Beto is in good form too despite not scoring against Manchester City.

“A little bit when somebody scores two goals. Beto has been quite consistent in the last month or so from that point of view there’s another argument to that. I think all season I’ve had a decision to make. We’ve chopped and changed a little bit with them to find who’s in form, who is scoring, who looks good in training.”

Moyes patient with Tyler Dibling’s development

On Tyler Dibling, who has played just one minute in the last 11 games, Moyes was patient but expects more next season. “He’s a young player with a lot of potential. He’s probably found it a little bit difficult settling and getting game time, especially at the start with Jack Grealish in the team.

“We like him a lot. We think he’s got a lot of talent, so he’ll have a lot to show next year and hopefully he’ll show that when he gets the opportunities.” Everton’s season is reaching its end. Three wins would be the ideal finish and Moyes has made his priority clear. Winning is the biggest thing. Now his players must deliver.
