Everton have sent their congratulations to lifelong supporter Andy Burnham following his official appointment as Prime Minister.
The club welcomed the news on social media on Monday afternoon, hailing the former Greater Manchester Mayor as “a Toffee at No.10” shortly after he formally took office.
Burnham crossed the threshold of Downing Street following an audience with King Charles at Buckingham Palace, succeeding Keir Starmer, who tendered his resignation earlier in the day. The transition marks a swift return to frontline national politics for the politician, who re-entered Westminster as an MP at last month’s Makerfield by-election.
In a public statement, Everton highlighted the new Prime Minister’s deep-rooted ties to the club, his regular attendance at matches, and his extensive history of social campaigning on Merseyside.
