Liverpool legend and current Evertonian Jamie Carragher lavished praise on Everton last night and believes the Merseysiders could finish in the Champions League positions.
Carragher talked about Everton’s spine in glowing terms on Monday Night Football and highlighted the ‘fantastic’ decision to keep John Stones at the club.
What a great spine they’ve got with young players, John Stones at centre back, it was a fantastic decision to keep him in the summer.
Ross Barkley is another young player in the middle of the team, and Lukaku has been outstanding this season.
The Toffeemen put in an excellent display on the weekend as they trounced a lowly Aston Villa 4-0, and have scored 10 goals in their last two home games.
After a tough start to the campaign which saw them play Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea, the Blues are now seventh in the table, with six points separating them and fourth place.
And Carragher believes the Blues could gatecrash the top four positions if they bolster their ranks in the winter transfer window.
If Everton could keep that spine and add to it, they’ve got the makings of a really top team,
If they could add just one or two around them, you certainly wouldn’t write them off for a top four place.
Roberto Martinez has said previously that the target for Everton this season is to qualify for the Champions League, and there is believed to be some money to spend at Goodison Park should the Catalonian wish to strengthen his side.
Everton will be looking to win consecutively in the league for the first time this season when they face Bournemouth at the Vitality stadium on Saturday.
