David Moyes future uncertain as Everton takeover speculation grows

Everton manager David Moyes faces uncertainty over his long-term future as speculation continues over a possible change of ownership.

TEAMtalk reports that no formal decision has been made on Moyes, whose contract expires next summer. The 63-year-old remains in charge after an unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

Moyes future linked to Everton ownership situation

The Friedkin Group announced last week that it was exploring new investment options, including the potential sale of its controlling interest in Everton.

TEAMtalk reports that Amanda Staveley and PCP Capital Partners have held informal discussions over a possible takeover. The report says Eddie Howe could become an option for the manager’s job if Staveley completed a deal and decided to make a change.

Staveley worked with Howe at Newcastle United, where he was appointed manager in 2021. There has been no reported approach from Everton to Howe, and any move would depend on Staveley’s group first progressing with a takeover.

Moyes returned to Everton for a second spell in January 2025 and has guided the Blues to 10 points from their opening six Premier League games this season.

He has already outlined what he wants from any potential new Everton owners following The Friedkin Group’s announcement.

Moyes has also been linked with Celtic ahead of next season, although there has been no reported approach from the Scottish club. His current Everton deal runs until the summer of 2027.
