According to a recent report from Italian news source Calciomercato, Everton are the latest club to express an interest in powerful Sporting Lisbon defender Ruben Semedo.
It’s safe to say that The Toffees’ defence is quite the ageing one, so it comes as no surprise to see them scouting around for new defensive reinforcements.
Semedo had an excellent season for Sporting at the back last season and has gained many plaudits for his displays in central defence.
Everton boss Ronald Koeman was claimed to have been interested in Semedo during his time with Southampton, so it looks as though he’s a long-term admirer of the 22-year-old.
Semedo would not come cheaply if Everton were to make a move, however. Since his breakthrough for Sporting, the Champions League club have made him somewhat a mainstay in their team, so a significant fee would be demanded to lure him away from the Portuguese giants in the near future.
