Everton set to lose Irish duo

Aiden McGeady and Darren Gibson are set to leave Goodison Park this month, according to The Times.

Derby County, Middlesbrough, Brighton and Hove Albion, Sunderland and Aston Villa are all interested in the duo as they look to get some playing time in the run up to the Euros this summer.

Darren Gibson has reportedly asked to go out on loan while Aiden McGeady was being chased by Celtic at the start of the transfer window, with talks breaking down due to the 29-year-old’s wage demands of £50,000-a-week.

There is strong interest from Derby County and Middlesbrough for Mcgeady, who has not made a league appearance this season.

A lack of minutes on the pitch isn’t doing either player any good for their chances of being selected for the Republic Of Ireland squad for the Euros this summer.

The Irish duo have struggled to force their way into the Everton starting line up, McGeady has just appeared just once for the Toffees this season,  while Gibson has only featured on five occasions.

Roberto Martinez has admitted that the duo have been working hard in training:

They have been working hard in training and it has been disappointing for them to not be getting the play time they deserve.

They need to have regular football before the end of the season to increase their fitness levels before the European Championships, while any potential sales could give Roberto Martinez more room to manoeuvre in the transfer market.
