Everton stay firm over Mirallas

Despite Kevin Mirallas being left frustrated with his lack of game-time, Everton will refuse any approach for the Belgian this January, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Mirallas has struggled to get into the team this season, predominantly due to Roberto Martinez’s tactical reshape. The Catalonian has been testing a slightly new system this term, which rarely features two out-and-out wingers. Rather, Martinez has played either Arouna Kone as an attacking option or Tom Cleverley as defensive cover out wide

Due to this, Mirallas has fell down the pecking order somewhat, as both Gerard Deulofeu and Aaron Lennon returned to the club over the summer. Deulofeu scored one and assisted one in Sunday’s win over Sunderland while Aaron Lennon is preferred due to his work-rate.

According to the Echo, the Belgian remains a key part of Martinez plans, which may indicate some game-time coming his way over the busy Christmas period.

Kevin had been linked away from the club during the summer break, but with his contract due to expire after this season, he decided to pledge his future to the Blues and signed a three-year deal.

The forward scored his only goal of the season in the Capital One Cup tie against Barnsley back in September.
