Injuries rack up for Blues

Muhamed Bešić and Seamus Coleman have joined the injured list after Saturdays game against Chelsea.

Bešić had to be substituted after just five minutes, the Bosnian pulling up with a hamstring injury after attempting to outrun Branislav Ivanović on the left wing. The midfielder was visibly frustrated, first punching the floor before looking upset as Naismith replaced him.

Fortunately for Everton, Steven Naismith would turn super-sub and scored a hat-trick to see the Blues beat Chelsea 3-1.

Late into the second half Seamus Coleman would also have to be substituted, the full-back adding to a large list of defenders already sidelined. Everton currently have left-backs Leighton Baines and Bryan Oviedo injured, with Brendan Galloway deputising for them in recent weeks. Luke Garbutt is also injured and is currently training with the club during his recovery before potentially returning to Fulham on loan. Tony Hibbert is also said to be injured, so Tyias Browning could be given the nod for next week.

Speaking after the game, manager Roberto Martinez exercised caution but explained that injuries to Bešić and Coleman may not be as bad as first thought. “[It’s] too early. I am sure it is soft tissues but we will wait and see.”

Everton will hope to have the pair available for next weekends trip to Swansea, before the Blues play Reading at the Madejski Stadium in the FA cup.
