Former Liverpool ace and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has looked across Stanley Park to Everton shot-stopper Jordan Pickford, praising his England role.
Speaking on the Sky Sports podcast [via The Boot Room], the pundit has praised Pickford’s starring role between the posts for Gareth Southgate’s England side.
Pickford has come under intense media scrutiny despite many pundits equally leaping to his defence, particularly with his consistency on international duty with the Three Lions.
In an Everton shirt, Pickford has made some high-profile blunders – but his commitment to self-improvement has seen him enjoy a progressive ascendency in 2021.
Everton goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly has detailed how Pickford has worked on his mentality and decision-making to fine-tune himself as a modern goalkeeper.
Commenting on his upturn in form, Carragher spoke glowingly of Pickford’s abilities:
“You look at record of clean sheets and that says it all really. But I do think Jordan Pickford has done really well when he has been called upon.
“They haven’t given up too many chances to be honest, but I think his distribution [has been good]. Going into the tournament he was questioned, shall we say really and I think he’s done really well.”

With the likes of Nick Pope and Dean Henderson both out of the England squad with injury, there was little question that Gareth Southgate would continue to keep faith in Pickford.
As England looks ahead to a vital Round of 16 clash with Germany, all eyes will be on Pickford to produce another domineering performance.
England are currently the only team at the tournament yet to have conceded a goal – a fine testament to the work of Pickford and England’s wider defensive unit.
