Many Everton Fans Praise Jordan Pickford's Recent Form

As Everton edge ever-closer to European football, it was not a match-winning goal from Richarlison that stole the show from some sections of the Everton fanbase last night.

Yesterday’s 1-0 win over Ralph Hasenhuttl’s struggling, slumping Southampton was enough to take the Toffees level on points with arch-rivals Liverpool and within three points of the top four spots.

However, recording consecutive clean sheets is no mean feat and is a testament to the formidable work of Jordan Pickford and the back line ahead of him.

As per WhoScored, Richarlison was outranked by several of his deeper-lying colleagues in terms of match rating, with Michael Keane winning their man of the match award after a fine defensive display.

England and Everton no. 1 Jordan Pickford was the subject of particular praise. He had a relatively quiet game but showed excellent footwork and composure throughout the match

His role in ball distribution was notable and earned plaudits for a match-winning stop to keep out Jannik Vestergaard’s late driven shot – Southampton’s first shot on target deep into the latter stages of the game.

Many Everton fans took to Twitter to praise the Toffees’ shot-stopper for his remarkable recent form and his decisiveness between the posts…
